Foundation Skills workshop

7-9pm

This workshop focuses on the Foundation Skills needed for School Readiness and is ideal for Early Childhood educators.

This workshop introduces participants to important reflex developmental stages that affect brain development. We will receive a handout containing some playful activities that you can use to support the children in your care to develop movement patterns that will support brain development.

Outcomes

By the end of the Foundation Skills Workshops you will:

  • understand what the foundation skills for formal learning are
  • understand the role of movement in brain development
  • understand what the physical skills are needed for learning
  • have a tool box of activities and movements you can do with children in your care to help them build these skills
  • know when you need to refer a child for further skills development with a professional

This workshop is in two parts and therefore broken up into two session. Each workshop is 1.5 hours long.

Workshop Part 1 -1.5 hours 

This workshop introduces participants to important reflex developmental stages that affect brain development. We will begin to look at some playful activities that you can use to support the children in your care to develop movement patterns that will support brain development. Activities include bean bag songs and Brain Gym® movements to develop body awareness, gross motor skills and a sense of direction.

Workshop Part 2- 1.5 hours

This workshop builds on part 1. We continue to explore movements and activities you can use easily in your day to prepare children getting ready for school or early years of school. Activities include fine motor activities for developing hands for writing and Brian Gym movements for listening skills, visual skills, balance and coordination.

Outcomes

By the end of the two parts of the Foundation Skills Workshops you will:

  • understand what the foundation skills for formal learning are
  • understand the role of movement in brain development
  • understand what the physical skills are needed for learning
  • have a tool box of activities and movements you can do with children in your care to help them build these skills
  • know when you need to refer a child for further skills development with a professional

Investment: $90 per person for the 3 hours. If you are thinking of this training for your whole team I can come to your centre and run this during your staff meeting time over two days.
